  • ODD Deep Space

Expanding the mind through the body

For ODDfest 2026, the Kamppi Chapel—a striking landmark of wooden architecture in downtown Helsinki—transforms into a dream portal where the body and the non-linear mind take centre stage. Over two days, experimental events unfold as an invigorating extension of this summer’s ODD universe. The chapel becomes a deep space satellite, exploring urgent themes ranging from work–life balance, mental health, money and value to planetary limits, AI and feminist futures.

We approach these themes through experimental sessions using movement, streams of consciousness, play and release. We move our bodies, shed the everyday mind, immerse in soundscapes and poetic visions, write and listen, open up, enter other frequencies—yet always returning to the ground.

ODD Deep Space is curated by artist and somatic facilitator Simo Vassinen, with guests ranging from thinkers to movers and makers. Visitors are invited to leave their 9-to-5 minds at the coat check. The space is safe, but brave. No prior movement experience is needed: all sessions are designed to be easy to enter. This is not about performativity, but about openness, curiosity and exploration.

We lean on each other in a shared space to access new ways of thinking. We turn to the poetic, comfortably unclear frequency of the Night to guide us through the Day. We explore how body-based practices and creative formats can deepen our engagement with these themes, and how tools of vitality can expand the social imagination. We shoot to the stars and see what lands.

Koski’s work often portrays animals of the Finnish forest as well as human portraits. A recurring theme in her paintings is the gaze—the moment of presence that emerges when the viewer meets the subject eye to eye. Her paintings aim to capture that quiet tension of being seen and seeing.

Alongside her studio work, Koski develops participatory art experiences through workshops, art camps, and retreats. She believes that every human being is born an artist and that art is not only a skill but a state of mind: a source of strength and expression available to everyone.

Her work is driven by a constant search for new ways to bring people closer to creativity and to the intuitive power of making art.

Ekroth’s work explores themes of identity, nostalgia, and everyday life, often balancing emotional depth with a subtle sense of humor. Drawing from personal experiences, he creates collections that feel intimate and relatable while maintaining a clear contemporary aesthetic.

His designs focus on versatility, comfort, and the movement between private and public spaces, reflecting a modern way of dressing. • Rudi Ruuskanen

Veikko “Rudi” Ruuskanen is a 67-year-old self-taught outsider artist (ITE artist) and long-time cultural practitioner whose work combines the aesthetics of music, light, and recycled materials.

His artistic journey has followed an unusually multidisciplinary path: from the early 1980s to the early 2000s, Ruuskanen worked as a lighting technician for bands, theaters, and various performance ensembles, and he has remained active as a DJ since 1975.

This decades-long experience with sound, rhythm, and lighting is strongly reflected in his current visual expression. Ruuskanen discovered visual art in the late 1990s, but his present artistic language has only fully crystallized in recent years. He has focused on steampunk-inspired sculptures and objects in which technological nostalgia, imagination, and craftsmanship converge.

His works are built on the principle of recycling: the materials consist of objects found on the street, forgotten items from storage, and discarded scrap, all of which are given new life as part of carefully composed assemblages. The use of new components is deliberate and complementary rather than dominant.

Ruuskanen embodies the core of ITE art: independent, self-directed expression that emerges outside institutional frameworks, where life experience and the joy of making are directly visible in the works themselves. His works do not strive for perfection but for vitality. They carry traces of use, history, and layers of accumulated meaning. Together, these works create a space in which the viewer can encounter both the ghosts of past technologies and the futures of imagined machines.

  • VIRTA

VIRTA, formed by Erik Fräki, Antti Hevosmaa, and Heikki Selamo, is known for its immersive live performances and distinctive sonic palette, which is difficult to confine to a single genre. The band’s unique way of blending ambient electronic music with Nordic jazz tradition, post-rock, and psychedelia is truly one of a kind.

In recent years, VIRTA has undergone a metamorphosis, the results of which are reflected in their album Horros (Svart Records), released at the end of 2023. Founded in Kuopio in 2011 and later relocated to Helsinki, the trio has expanded its sonic palette with new instruments and Finnish-language vocals. With their latest album, the band continues its musical exploration deeper into shadowy, liminal territories.

The band’s earlier releases, Hurmos (Svart Records, 2016) and Tales From the Deep Waters (Tourist Information, 2012), received widespread acclaim from both critics and audiences upon release. Rumba named the Jazz-Femma Awarded (2019) group “a cult band of the future,” while Savon Sanomat called them “a trailblazer of their generation.” Following the release of Horros, the band has performed numerous acclaimed shows not only in Finland but also in countries including the Netherlands, Germany, Denmark, and Estonia.

At ODDfest, VIRTA will perform a special set with VJ Folded Visuals. This performance is brought to the stage in collaboration with Aavistus.

  • VJ Indigo

Indigo is a Helsinki-based multifaceted artist known as a VJ, DJ, Visual artist, and electronic music producer.

Indigo began DJing far before his visual work. The VJing began years later, when he started making visuals for his own DJ gigs. Soon, Indigo began creating visuals for numerous underground events, clubs, and art events. Indigo relies on full intuition and flow power: each set is improvised and advances with the surrounding energies.

At ODDfest, VJ Indigo will be performing a special show with Kaukolampi. This performance is brought to the stage in collaboration with Aavistus.

The result is a host who doesn’t just connect the program, but amplifies the full ODDfest experience.

  • Wildchild (US)

Oxnardian Jack Brown, also known as Wildchild, started as a dancer who transitioned to rapping and emceeing eventually forming the 90’s group Lootpack as part of the Alkaholiks “Likwit Crew” with fellow artists Madlib and DJ Romes. This led to Lootpack’s first album, “Soundpieces Da Antidote”.

Wildchild began touring Europe with the group and soloing in the U.S. and overseas with artists Phife Dawg, Common, Slum Village, DJ Scratch, Ex-Executioners, and the Alkaholiks. Wildchild later released a few albums under StonesThrow, Fat Beats, and SomeOthaShip.

With music becoming saturated with commercial negativity and also being a full-time father to his son Miles Brown (Black-ish), he decided to pause recording and touring to form a film and TV production company with his son. His motto has always been to unite different cultures through music and dance.

“Child of a Kingsman” is Wildchild’s last release, which summarizes the continued support of hip hop preservation through the eyes of a b-boy, emcee, graffiti writer, or DJ.

  • Winged

Winged is the first end-to-end agentic dating app. Instead of endless swiping, Winged introduces a personal AI agent that learns about you, understands your preferences, and actively navigates your dating life to find meaningful matches on your behalf.

  • Yannick

Yannick is a fresh new artist for whom conveying emotion is the most important part of making music. Catchy pop melodies and hints of schlager are complemented by shades of R&B, afrobeats, and EDM. His songs are snapshots from his own life, with particular focus placed on Finnish-language lyrics and emotional expression. Above all, the songs and performances are meant to sound powerful live.

Yannick will take the stage alongside Erottajan Kulma at ODDfest as part of the special festival edition of INDIE SHOWCASE.

  • Yemi (SE)

Swedish artist Yemi makes music that resists easy categorisation; brooding, melodic and boundary-pushing. Starting out in Swedish before expanding into English and Japanese, the latter a language he taught himself after a transformative period in Japan, his work is defined by genuine creative restlessness; each record a step rather than a variation.

A Swedish Grammy, P3 Guld, and British Urban Music Awards nominee previously featured in The Fader and Complex, his fourth album Pattern Recognition, his first fully self-produced record following collaborations with Gud and Misogi, is his most focused and personal statement yet.
