What Are The Odds?
A contemporary dance performance about the theme of random encounter and how to connect even when you might be lost in translation. This duet performance from Helsinki based dance artists Mia Jaatinen and Mikko Makkonen invites the spectator to wonder about versatile movement language in an intense atmosphere supported by beautiful sound design of Josu Mämmi.

Mia Jaatinen is a versatile dance artist based in Helsinki. She holds an MA in dance performance from Uniarts Helsinki Theatre Academy. Mia´s works have been presented at Zodiak – Centre for New Dance and numerous dance festivals in Finland. She is also part of a contemporary dance group Kinetic Orchestra and MMM-collective. Mia´s artistic work is based on partnering, different movement and performative practices and the idea of common (bodily) wisdom and shared expertise.

Mikko Makkonen works as a dancer, choreographer and a dance teacher. He graduated with MA in Dance Performance from Uniarts Helsinki and with BA in dance pedagogy from Turku Arts Academy. Mikko has worked widely as a dance performer in productions by several Finnish choreographers, companies and performing arts institutions. Mikko’s own choreographic works have been seen in Dance Theatre Minimi, Kuopio city theatre, Zodiak – Centre for New Dance and freelancer based productions. The bodily focus of dancing and a responsible relationship with the world are core values in Makkonen’s work.
